Bachelor Political Science

The bachelor’s degree in political science provides students with a strong foundation to pursue careers in many different fields, including public policy analysis, public service, teaching, research, and the legal profession. As one step in enhancing the professional development of our undergraduate students, the department provides a variety of resources and opportunities, including pre-law advising and internship programs. Students also have opportunities to work with faculty on research projects. In recent years, our undergraduates have participated in national policy conferences, and they've worked in a number of internships in the public and private sectors. In addition, recent graduates have been admitted to highly selective graduate programs.

Learning Objectives

  • To enhance a student’s ability to communicate in both written and oral form;
  • To enhance a student’s ability to think through and compare competing theories and information utilizing logical and analytical means;
  • To be knowledgeable in the six subfields of the discipline including major trends, debates, theories, and methods; and
  • To be prepared for graduate study in political science or a related discipline such as law.
