Bachelor of Science [B.S] Biology - Bioinformatics Emphasis
It provides a broader background, covering molecular, cellular, physiological, ecological, and evolutionary biology. Majors also study species evolution, the effect of environmental pressures on evolution, patterns of biological diversity, and species interaction within a given ecosystem. General biology prepares students for careers in a number of fields including field biology, environmental biology, physiology, botany, zoology, dentistry, and medicine. A teaching major is also offered, leading to certification to teach in Arizona public schools.
The knowledge of biology, mathematics, and computer science gained from a major in Biology in the Bioinformatics concentration forms a valuable career foundation for a dynamic field in science and medicine. Graduates in the Bioinformatics concentration are prepared to work in data management and analysis for research, production, and medical operations. This major is also excellent preparation for graduate studies in computer science or life sciences.
