Bachelor of Arts [B.A] Modern Language and Culture

  • Speaking a second language and understanding other cultures is of strategic importance in a world in which international collaboration is not only necessary for political survival, but also indispensable for economic success. The B.A. in Modern Language and Culture prepares graduates who are able to communicate effectively in one or more foreign languages and have a keen understanding of how humans interact across world cultures.
  • Graduates will be familiar with current global issues and possess the knowledge, skills, and versatility needed to succeed academically and professionally in an ever-changing society. Students choose one of five primary languages - Chinese, French, German, Italian, or Spanish - in which they develop and refine language proficiency as well as cross-cultural competence. They then have the choice of four concentrations:
    • Second Language and Culture
    • Teacher Certification in Foreign Language (FLED)
    • Applied Business
    • Cross-disciplinary Perspectives
  • The B.A. with a major in Modern Language and Culture is designed to develop student's communication skills and understanding of other cultures and to foster respect for difference and diversity in a global society. Students choose one of five primary languages - Chinese, French, German, Italian, or Spanish - in which they develop and refine language proficiency as well as cross-cultural competence. In the course of their studies, Modern Language and Culture majors acquire and practice the communication skills and cultural competence necessary to function effectively in a global society. The curriculum prepares degree candidates for future academic programs and professional careers in which foreign language proficiency and cultural knowledge are desirable or required or both.

Academic Eligibility:

  • Graduation from high school with a GPA of 2.5 with qualifying test scores-or graduation from high school with a GPA of 2.6 without test scores(If educated outside of the United States, the required official evaluation must indicate GPA)
  • Official transcripts of ALL student's high school or post-secondary records. English evaluations of all foreign documents will be needed. Students must have their foreign transcripts evaluated by one of the following credential evaluation services found at naces.org.
    • Students High School transcript will need to have a document-by-document evaluation including GPA.
    • Students College/University transcript will need to have a course-by-course evaluation.
  • Results from your Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT).
  • International students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
  • Official or certified true copies of all high school and/or college/university records with a certified English translation. International students are required to have an official evaluation of credentials done by an outside agency at the student’s expense. 
  • Completion of the first two levels of English Composition college-level courses with a “C” or higher at an accredited American institution
  • Successful completion through Level Six of the Kennesaw State University Intensive English Program
