Bachelor of Arts [B.A] Art
The excellent faculty, gallery exhibition space, and studio facilities available at Cleveland State University, offer students unique opportunities to expand their experience, knowledge and technical skills in a comfortable, supportive environment.
The program in Art Education prepares students to teach in the public schools, from Kindergarten through High School. In addition to a sound foundation in studio and art history, Art Education students study teaching methods and curriculum organization. Field observations require students to visit actual classrooms. In addition to the requirements for the art department, 42 hours are required in education courses.
Each year, the Cleveland State University Art Department awards several Merit Scholarships for the following academic year. These scholarships are exclusively for Art Majors and will pay part or full tuition for the year. Students can apply for these scholarships each year. High School Seniors may apply for these scholarships the year before they actually start at Cleveland State University.
Art History students benefit from close ties our faculty have with the Cleveland Museum of Art and other exhibition institutions. Many students have had internships which give them “hands on” experience in a professional environment. Former Cleveland State students work at numerous institutions throughout the Northeastern Ohio area and elsewhere, and have been admitted to prestigious programs for graduate study.
