Bachelor of Science [B.S] Biochemistry
- The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry is a 4-year program with Honours at Carleton University.
- Students will have the opportunity to apply to the Co-operative Education Program.
- If students want to begin the co-op program, they must have completed at least two years of an Honours Bachelor of Science program.
- Students learn how animals, plants, and bacteria make use of energy to grow, compete with other organisms, and reproduce.
- Co-op placements can give students work experience in :
- Private sector biotechnology firms
- Government and university laboratories
- Pharmaceutical companies.
- Students will gain knowledge in biology and chemistry, as well as with many opportunities to apply their knowledge to modern-day challenges facing the discipline.
- The first and second years of the Major and Honours programs in Biochemistry gives a solid foundation in the sciences and mathematics.
- In the fourth year, students will be focusing on more specialized courses such as those dealing with bioinformatics, proteins, or DNA repair.
- The Biochemistry programs give students hands-on work experience in well-equipped laboratories.
- If students choose the Honours program, they will complete an Honours thesis project.
- Co-op students complete at least three work terms during their degree program.
- The student to faculty ratio is 9:1 which bridges the gap between faculty and students.
- The Biochemistry degree will serve students as they further explore the world of research and potentially pursue a medical degree.

Academic Eligibility:
- Students will need a secondary school or high school graduation certificate with a minimum of 12 years of study.
- Students must have transcripts from their senior high school along with their graduation diploma or certificate, and any graduation exam results.
- If English is not the students’ first language then they must provide proof of English competency.
