Master of Arts [M.A] Science Education
- The degree not only leads to initial teacher licensure, but also fulfills the course subject matter knowledge requirement necessary for professional licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
- The program is designed to prepare effective science educators through coursework and field-based experiences that are consistent with our mission to graduate effective and confident science educators. We emphasize teaching linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse learners. Our faculty guide students to develop and practice techniques that will engage their students in the learning process, allowing young learners to experience science actively, and develop reflective practices that inspire scientific thinking and ways of knowing.
- Our program works closely in collaboration with departments in the College of Arts and Sciences to provide students with a curriculum that addresses professional education, content fields, and authentic field experiences in the classroom. Our work across departments has resulted in the 5+ Club award from the Physics Teacher Education Coalition (PhysTEC), a joint project of the American Physical Society (APS) and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT.
