Our talented, experienced faculty includes working playwrights, directors, and actors. You'll be learning from professionals in the industry who are passionate about education. At SRU you'll have the opportunity to participate in productions both locally and internationally, and will receive a well-rounded education with real-world skills that will help you establish a professional career.
Through the Acting emphasis at SRU you'll first gain a solid foundation in the Stanislavski method, and then progress to advanced courses in acting, voice, and movement. Core upper division acting courses include:
- Acting II (centered around the techniques of Michael Chekhov)
- Voice and Movement
- Acting Shakespeare
Acting majors can also take up to three sections of Acting Technique - a course focusing on specialized topics, such as:
- Auditioning
- Stage Combat
- Devised Theatre
- Meisner technique
- Uta Hagen technique
