Bachelor of Science [B.S] Molecular & Cellular Biology
Understanding the molecular workings of cells is being transferred into rapid advances in medicine and agriculture. These advances have spawned a new biotechnology industry, allowing the introduction of beneficial genes into crop plants and domestic animals, and promising to lessen the severity of certain genetic diseases. Majors study fundamental biological questions about gene and cell structure and function. Students are encouraged to participate in active research with professors. Possible careers include medicine, industry, education or emerging fields in biotechnology.
In addition to familiarity with mathematics, physics, and writing skills, the Molecular and Cellular Biology major provides students with coursework and laboratory experience in advanced chemistry, biology, and genetics. Graduates will be prepared for work as laboratory technologists, research scientists, consultants, or educators in medicine, the pharmaceutical industry, forensics, agriculture, or biotechnology. This major is also excellent preparation for medical, veterinary, or pharmacy school or graduate programs in the life sciences or public health.
