Bachelor of Science [B.S] Statistics - Applied Statistics

Students enjoy a great deal of interaction with faculty as well as small classes. For students with excellent preparation in high school, the department offers a master’s program in which a student can earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in five years.

The statistics major consists of two options:

  • Applied statistics
  • Mathematical statistics (Mathematical statistics usually leads to a double major in mathematics and statistics).

Careers in Statistics with Mathematics Option

Most statistics majors continue on to graduate school or enter professional programs such as law school, medical school, or business programs. Some decide to teach. Others become sports statisticians or work for cities as database managers, cryptologists, mathematicians, or market researchers. The newest trend for statistics majors is to continue on in data analytics, computational statistics and machine learning. In addition, students learn communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving skills as well as the necessary technical skills for positions in a number of industries.
