Bachelor of Arts [B.A] Geology

  • Geologists use a combination of field and laboratory research to understand the physical, chemical, and biological processes that have shaped the planet over time and how these processes affect us. Students will cover topics like
    • energy resources;
    • environmental protection;
    • geologic hazards such as volcanic eruptions, storms, and floods; and
    • global climate change.
  • The Bachelor of Arts (BA) is geared toward liberal arts students who want to concentrate on geology. Students gain exposure to the study of groundwater, minerals, and physical geology. It is also well-suited for pre-medicine and prelaw students as well as those planning to teach earth science in secondary school.
  • The BA degree requires slightly fewer credit hours than the BS degree, so students will have sufficient flexibility for electives outside the major. The Bachelor of Science in Geology (BS) involves foundational and advanced science courses and is the best choice if you are considering graduate studies in geosciences.
  • The BS curriculum includes courses such as igneous and metamorphic geology, the use of computers and remote sensing in geology, paleontology and the interpretation of earth history through the study of sedimentary deposits.
