Bachelor Economics
is a study of the way we as humans organize ourselves in order to gain our needs and wants from the earth. Just as each individual family must provide for itself, humanity overall must devise ways to efficiently and justly provide for the human family, within the confines of the planet we live on. Understood that way, we see that the economy impacts all of us all the time and that economics certainly is not just about money.
The Economics program offered by the Castleton University uses methods of inquiry are that often empirical, theoretical, and historical. There are serious debates within the profession about the answers to these questions. The discipline is powerful; economists have influenced and advised powerful leaders for centuries. The policies that have arisen from the ideas of economists can profoundly influence the lives of millions of people, for good or for ill.
Career prospects
Students going directly into the professional world after graduation will find that the economics major is excellent preparation for many careers in the private, public, and non-profit spheres. Typical examples could be in banking, management in the private or nonprofit sector, employment as a stockbroker, or through a state or federal government agency.
Students going on to graduate school are well positioned for graduate training in economics, law, business, or public administration. Students with just one year of graduate training may enter Federal Civil Service at the GS 7 or GS 9 level. Those pursuing further graduate studies, such as a Ph.D. in economics, can expect to find senior research positions as well as teaching positions at colleges and universities.
