Master of Arts [M.A] Philosophy

The M.A. degree requires two years (36 hours) of course work. All graduate students take foundational courses in their first four semesters.

Admission to the program requires a bachelor’s degree in philosophy or sufficient course work in philosophy, as determined by the department. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of academic achievement, GRE scores, three letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and a sample essay in philosophy. Students may be admitted as for a terminal M.A. degree or for the Ph.D. Program.

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must hold a recognized baccalaureate, graduate, or professional degree from a regionally accredited US institution or a comparable degree from an international institution.
  • For applicants with a bachelor’s degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0) is required.
  • Students must be qualified in IELTS or TOEFL to get admission to this program.
  • Submission of GRE scores is required.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Completed a master’s degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
