Master of Arts [M.A] Philosophy
Graduates of this program will be able to:
- Articulate and defend their own point of view.
- Demonstrate knowledge of selected philosophers in the history of philosophy from the classical period down to the present day
The Master of Arts degree program in philosophy at Kent State University offers intensive, in-depth study of philosophy, with particular attention to the diversity and plurality of philosophical methods, perspectives, and modes of analysis, and their relation to other disciplines. Most of our graduate students pursue one of the following goals:
- doctoral work in philosophy
- a terminal Master's degree in philosophy
- supplementing and enhancing their work in other disciplines
The graduate program stresses both breadth and depth and offers students the option of a thesis or a non-thesis research project as a culminating experience.

Academic Eligibility:
- Students must a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university to get admission to this program.
- Students require a minimum GPA of 3 on a 4.0 scale for the program.
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Students must complete a 4-year undergraduate degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution
- Students need to submit minimum GRE exam scores for a better chance of admission.
- Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
