Advanced Diploma Marine Engineering Technology
- Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering Technology at Georgian College is offered as a 3 years (6 semesters) program.
- It is an on-campus, co-op program offered on a full-time basis.
- This is a Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) approved program.
- Students are immersed in a co-operative marine engineering cadet program designed in co-operation with TCMSS and Canada’s shipping companies.
- Students focus on developing competencies required to function as part of a shipboard marine engineering team.
- The content of the program includes, and is based upon, the TCMSS Engineering Officer Education Training (EOET) program requirements.
- The program involves four academic semesters accompanied by two mandatory co-op terms. Engineering cadets (students) get a total of 210 days of sea time over those two work terms.
- This program is accredited by the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education(CAFCE).
- The final two semesters are open to anyone holding an STCW Reg. III/1 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency.
- These students can apply for advanced standing exempting them from the first 2 years of the program.
- Upon completion of semesters five and six, students may be exempted from written examinations for 2nd and Chief Engineer Officer.
- The Centre for Marine Training and Research is Canada's most advanced marine simulation and research centre. It recently underwent an extensive $8-million renovation to enhance hands-on training for students.
- Marine companies support this program by providing a variety of inland and coastal placements for cadet work terms, which can lead to employment upon graduation.
- Starting salaries range from 43,500 USD to 52500 USD.

Academic Eligibility:
- Students have to complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with
- Grade 12 English (C or U)
- Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U)
- Students must provide a valid Transport Canada Marine Medical certificate stating fit for sea service or fit for sea service with limitations.
- For advanced standing entry into the 3rd year (Semester 5 and 6) of the program, the following additional requirements apply:
- Students must complete the Marine Engineering Cadet Training Program in Canada
- Or, students hold a Certificate of Competency as a Marine Engineer issued under the STCW Convention
- Or, Students have an equivalent level of knowledge demonstrated through an interview and portfolio of experience.
- Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school students may also be considered for admission.
- Students who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing also get admission to this program.
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:
- All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE)
- Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
- Indian School Certificate (ISC)
- Intermediate Examination Certificate
- Pre-University Examination Certificate
- Diploma / Degree certificate Mark sheets for each year of study.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
