Master of Science [M.S] Food Science

  • The Food Science and Nutrition Department has a team of motivated, supportive and experienced food science faculty to prepare you to be successful in your professional career. Most of our faculty members have an interest in applied research and the research performed in our department is often done in collaboration with the food industry.
  • Students need to take a minimum of 45 credits to graduate from the program and write an MS thesis. Depending on the student’s research interest, many electives can be chosen as described in the curriculum tab.
  • Graduates of the MS Food Science will:
    • Demonstrate technical competency in the discipline of food science.
    • Design, analyze, interpret, and communicate food science research.
    • Formulate solutions to practical problems in food safety, production, development, sustainability and aspects of consumer health.
    • Communicate and work effectively and ethically with individuals and groups.

Academic Eligibility:

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in food science or a related field such as physical or biological science, chemistry of engineering.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • The minimum requirements are an overall average of 60% in each year, as well as in all prerequisite subjects.
  • Subjects must include mathematics, chemistry, and physics in Classes 11 and 12.
  • GPA of 3.0/4.0 [B Grade or 83-86%].

English Language proficiency:

  • Applicants from India, China, Vietnam, Philippines, and Pakistan should note that IELTS is the only proficiency score accepted by the Study Direct Stream (SDS) program.
  • Meeting the minimum English requirements does not guarantee admission. Students with higher English proficiency scores will receive priority in the admission assessment process.
  • Not all students will qualify for EAP-3106 in place of the required IELTS or TOEFL test scores.

Submission of GRE scores is compulsory for this program, however, it is recommended to submit a minimum 326 score for a better chance of admission.
