Bachelor of Science [B.S] Biochemistry

  • Biochemistry--where biology and chemistry intersect--is the study of living things at the molecular level. This interdisciplinary field of science is exciting and versatile, with topics ranging from disease and DNA to forensic science and agriculture.
  • A bachelors in biochemistry can lead to a career as a biochemist or serve as a foundation for medical school.
  • The Bachelor of Arts prepares you for entry into professional schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or optometry or into careers in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.
  • The Bachelor of Scienceprepares you for professional schools, graduate studies in biochemistry, or to pursue careers as professional biochemists. This degree includes a choice between four tracks:
    •  Standard - includes studies in calculus, analytical chemistry and general physics.
    • American Chemical Society (ACS) - includes additional advanced studies in calculus, analytical chemistry and engineering physics.
    • Biomedical Sciences - designed for those preparing to enter professional schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or optometry, or who wish to enter the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.
    • Pre-Vet track - prepares students who plan to enter professional veterinary schools.
    • In addition, the health professions fast-track cooperative degree offers students the chance to enter professional school after only three years at ACU.

GPA Requirements
  • A cumulative undergraduate approximately B average or above in the area of focus or related area and evidence of an overall productive GPA.

 English Language Proficiency

  • Provide official documentation of English language proficiency by one of the following:
  • Submit an official test score from an English language proficiency test accepted by ACU. Official test scores should be sent directly from the testing entity. ACU’s test code is 6001. Accepted English language proficiency tests are: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language System (IELTS), EIKEN, Pearson Test of English (PTE-Academic), and CAE.
  • Students who have a conferred bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited US institution
  • Students who received a bachelor’s degree or higher in which English was the primary language of instruction
  • The accepted score for ACT is 21 or above. 
  • The average accepted score for SAT is 1200.
