The MSHI Health Information Management track is designed to train UAB graduates for new employment opportunities in administrative, educational and research activities in the rapidly evolving, fast-growing electronic healthcare environment. This is a specialty track for credentialed HIM practitioners who have three to five years of work experience.

The curriculum addresses the development and implementation of computer based electronic health record, the use of appropriate clinical classifications, vocabularies and terminologies, the management of legal and regulatory requirements, plus privacy and security oversight for health information.
