Bachelor of Science [B.S] Physiology
The undergraduate Physiology major emphasizes the integrated biological functions of the human body ranging from the cellular to the organ system level. Coursework and research participation provide students with opportunities to learn how the body functions and how these functions are affected by stress and disease. The physiology major prepares students to continue their studies, following completion of the BS in Health Sciences degree, in graduate or professional school pursuing a career in fields related to health science, basic research, or health care. The major curriculum includes the courses required for application to schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, etc.
The knowledge of human biological function, cell biology, disease, and the human body’s responses and adaptions to stress, environment, and medicine gained from a major in Physiology forms a valuable and versatile foundation for many careers. Graduates in Physiology can pursue careers in fitness training and promotion, medicine and health sciences, research, and education with employers ranging from health care and athletic facilities to schools, universities, and laboratories. This major is excellent preparation for medical, nursing, or pharmacy school, physical therapy programs, massage therapy training, and graduate study in exercise science, public health, and epidemiology.
