Research and Dissertation
- A minimum of 37 hours of doctoral research or project-based research. Typically, students complete more than 37 credit hours with the approval of the Graduate Advisory Committee.
Electives

3 hours of Ph.D. Dissertation is required on the Plan of Study.
Minimum requirement – 72 credit hours (minimum of 32 credit hours course work; minimum of 40 credit hours research and dissertation)
Minimum of 22 additional credit hours of course work selected with the approval of the student’s Graduate Advisory Committee. At least 10 hours must be 8000-level or above.
* Only 3 hours of Graduate Seminar may apply on the Program of Study. Individual Programs or Schools may require students to enroll for additional semesters. Students are strongly encouraged to continue regular attendance of speaker series presentations even if not formally registered in the seminar.

- Required in addition to submit TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores or the IELTS.
- An applicant may be admitted as a prospective candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy degree upon certification by the major department that he or she is a person of proper attainment and promise, that appropriate courses may be adequately given, and that the student’s research can be adequately supported and directed. Such admission must be to an authorized field and must be approved by the dean of the Graduate School.
- Persons holding a baccalaureate degree, or a foreign equivalent, from a regionally accredited institution are eligible to apply for admission to the Graduate School.
