Doctor of Philososphy [Ph.D] Political Science & International Affairs
- The PhD degree is administered jointly by the Departments of Political Science and International Affairs and prepares students for research and teaching at universities and colleges. Students must complete four classes in research methods, as well as coursework and comprehensive examinations in a major and a minor field.
- Major fields include international relations, comparative politics, American politics, law and courts, and political theory. Minor fields include these five fields plus two others: public administration and public policy.

- An applicant may be admitted as a prospective candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy degree upon certification by the major department that he or she is a person of proper attainment and promise, that appropriate courses may be adequately given, and that the student’s research can be adequately supported and directed. Such admission must be to an authorized field and must be approved by the dean of the Graduate School.
- Persons holding a baccalaureate degree, or a foreign equivalent, from a regionally accredited institution are eligible to apply for admission to the Graduate School.
