Master of Arts [M.A] History

The programs offered by the Department of History cover not only the standard geographic areas and chronological divisions of the western world but also an increasing number of regions and themes outside this framework. The full range of approaches to history, from political and economic through social and intellectual, finds representation in The Department supervises doctoral research in a variety of areas of specialization. The areas of the research of the program are:

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must hold an honours BA in history or in history and another subject, with at least a B+ standing from a recognized university.
  • Students should have at least a B+ average (equivalent to a McMaster 8.5 GPA out of 12).

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Or, completed a 3-year UG degree from a recognized university.

Submission of GRE scores is not compulsory for this program, however, if students have given the GRE then it is recommended to submit the scores (minimum 300) for a better chance of admission.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
