The program offered by the Castleton University?concerns are typically studied within two general disciplinary frameworks: the natural sciences consider the world of nature, while the social sciences consider the interactions between humans and the rest of nature. At Castleton, the two aspects are divided between our department, which focuses on the human side of the equation, and the Natural Sciences Department.??

Our social science major-by-contract in environmental studies offers coursework in the history, politics, economics, sociology, anthropology, and human geography of the environmental-human nexus and the issues that arise from that. We also require our students to gain at least a working knowledge of the natural world by taking some basic coursework in the Natural Sciences Department.??
