The major is offered by Adelphi University through the Department of Sociology in conjunction with the College of Professional and Continuing Studies. The program is designed to provide an understanding of the problems of crime, delinquency, law, and social control. 

The major combines a strong liberal arts background with specialized courses in law, criminology, sociology, psychology, and law enforcement administration. The overall objective of the program is to provide a sound educational basis for either graduate work or professional training.
