Doctor of Philosophy [Ph.D] Chemistry

Through interdisciplinary research, our students are working in some of the hottest and most exciting areas of modern chemistry. The faculty are extremely active while maintaining a strong commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. As a result of our excellence in teaching and research, we have the largest PhD program at LSU, and we have also doubled the number of undergraduate majors in chemistry.

The Louisiana State University Department of Chemistry is on the cutting edge. We are one of the best-equipped Chemistry departments in the US, and we have been awarded and have invested well over 2 million dollars in NMR instrumentation. We, additionally, have state-of-the-art facilities for mass spectrometry, x-ray crystallography, and polymer analysis.

Our department is very diverse. With several female and African American faculty members, there are a host of mentors for young scientists from various ethnic and cultural heritages. Through leadership, recruitment, and network, LSU has made great strides to increase the number of African American PhD students in Chemistry.

Baton Rouge is large enough to offer many indoor and outdoor activities, excellent restaurants and shopping, etc. Our local culture is unique and is a derivative of many other cultures, including French, African, Italian, British, German, Hungarian, and Spanish, just to name a few.

To sum it all up, there?s no better place to live while working in ground-breaking areas of chemical research.
