Bachelor of Arts [B.A] English - Creative Writing

  • BA in English - Creative Writing at the Auburn University is a 4 year, 120-credit program.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
  • BA English Literature with Creative Writing is a small, specialized creative writing pathway within an English Literature degree, in which students will take 25% of their credits in creative writing (both fiction and poetry).
  • The course covers the full range of English literature from Old English to the present day. The creative writing component of the course focuses on fiction and poetry writing. 
  • The course will introduce students to techniques of fiction and poetry writing and develop their understanding of the craft of writing, the nature, and necessity of revision, and the importance of being able to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • The creative writing component of the degree will be taught in small group workshops.
  • Students will write their own poems and stories regularly, read relevant work from established writers, and respond to examples of contemporary poetry and fiction.
  • There will be in-class writing exercises and an introduction to workshopping.
  • Students will also become part of a thriving community of students, lecturers, and writers at The University of Manchester, based in the heart of a UNESCO City of Literature that has produced some of the world's greatest writers and has a thriving literature and arts scene, including major events like Manchester Literature Festival.

Academic Eligibility: 

  • Students must graduate from a U.S. high school.
  • Students must have their foreign transcripts evaluated by an independent credentials evaluator.
  • Students are required to maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA.

Language Requirments:

  • Students whose official language is not English are required to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores. 
  • Students are required to submit an SAT or ACT score to be considered for admission. 

International students who currently or will hold a degree from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction, do not need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score report.

TOEFL, PTE, and IELTS scores are only considered official when they are sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
