The MSU German faculty is nationally recognized for their contributions in the fields of literary, cultural, linguistic, and pedagogical scholarship. Good German skills add value to any MSU major.
Our department focuses on three areas: linguistics, cultural studies, and language learning and teaching. We are dedicated to quality teaching, research and outreach.
The faculty places great emphasis on the education of students, from first-year undergraduates through advanced doctoral candidates and on to active research that not only explores cutting-edge theoretical and applied issues but is also closely linked to educational goals and engages students in the classroom. Collectively, departmental teaching and research reflect continuing concern for the local, national and global community.
By the very interdisciplinary nature of the fields represented in the department, issues of how language reflects the nature of the human mind, how language is acquired, the interaction of language and culture, minority perspectives, diversity and internationalization lie at the center of our activities.
The department is proud of its reputation as a leader in the study of language in the digital age and intends to build on these achievements. It will enhance its strengths in cutting-edge research and graduate and undergraduate course-work in the areas of Language Learning and Teaching, Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies. It will promote the great diversity of its languages and global geographical reach of its on-campus and overseas programming. Our vision touches upon three key areas:

Academic Eligibility:
- A Candidate needed to provide Senior School Certificate or School certificate awarded after standard XII.
- English and Maths (advanced or academic level) are required in grade 12.
- Two Science 12grade level is required.
- One Additional 12 grade course (advanced or academic level) is needed.
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:
- All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE)
- Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
- Indian School Certificate (ISC)
- Intermediate Examination Certificate
- Pre-University Examination Certificate
- Students must have a Grade XII chemistry or Grade XII physics.
- Students also hold Grade XII math (Minimum math result of 55%).
English Language proficiency:
- Applicants from India, China, Vietnam, Philippines, and Pakistan should note that IELTS is the only proficiency score accepted by the Study Direct Stream (SDS) program.
- Meeting the minimum English requirements does not guarantee admission. Students with higher English proficiency scores will receive priority in the admission assessment process.
- Not all students will qualify for EAP-3106 in place of the required IELTS or TOEFL test scores.
