Master of Arts [M.A] Anthropology

Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. The program combines commitments to the exploration of archaeological, physical, and cultural aspects of human and social beings through a range of approaches with the aim of enabling a fuller understanding of all aspects of humans. Students admitted to the M.A. program have the option of doing coursework and then 1) writing an MRP (1-year), or 2) writing a scholarly thesis (2-year) which demonstrates the ability to conduct original research. The research areas of the program include:

  • Anthropology of Culture, Health, and Disease

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must hold an honours bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Students should have at least a B+ average (equivalent to a McMaster 8.5 GPA out of 12) in the most current 20 half-credit courses in the discipline, or relating to the discipline, in which the applicant proposes to do graduate work.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Or, completed a 3-year UG degree from a recognized university.

Submission of GRE scores is not compulsory for this program, however, if students have given the GRE then it is recommended to submit the scores (minimum 300) for a better chance of admission.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
