Diploma Music

  • The Diploma degree in Music at Douglas College is offered as 2 years or 4-term teaching program.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis only.

  • In the Music Diploma Program, students get private lessons in their chosen instrument or voice and take classes in music theory and history, performing ensembles, and class piano.

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must complete BC secondary school graduation (or the equivalent in another school system).
  • Students have one course short of BC secondary school graduation.
  • Students complete 19 years old by the end of the first month of the first semester of attendance.
  • English 12 with a minimum grade of "C" or approved substitution is required.
  • Practical Audition: The student will perform music on his/her instrument or voice.  To be placed in performance-level Studio Instruction courses, the student will demonstrate proficiency at the following minimum levels:
    • Keyboard: Grade 10 RCMT or equivalent
    • Guitar: Grade 5 RCMT or equivalent
    • All other instruments and voice: Grade 6 RCMT or equivalent
  • Theory Assessment: The student must demonstrate familiarity and fluency with musical rudiments.
  • Intake Interview: The student will meet with a music faculty member to discuss their course plan and future goals. 

Language Requirements:

  • Students must have strong English skills. 
  • The students whose official language is not English must submit the English Language Proficiency scores like IELTS or TOEFL.
  • If the student does not meet the language requirements they can take English Language Learning and Acquisition (ELLA) program and complete it and pursue this program.
