Bachelor of Arts [B.A] Studio Art
The BFA major in studio art is for students planning professional careers as creative artists. The BA major is for students planning to pursue art-related careers. All students enroll in the BA program. Portfolio review is required to enter the BFA program. Students take a common core of basic art and design courses that provide the foundation for more specialized study. Students then take advanced courses in two- and three-dimensional media and design before selecting an area of emphasis. Major areas are: 2-D studio (drawing, painting, printmaking); 3-D studio (sculpture, ceramics, fibers); photography; new genre (video art, performance art, etc.); visual communication (graphic design, illustration, etc.); and combining media (painting/drawing, sculpture/ceramics/fibers, other combinations).
Studio Art, like many majors, teaches content and skills that can be applied to a wide variety of career fields. This major does not restrict you to a specific field. The career fields most closely related to this major are competitive. Many individuals who graduate with bachelor’s degrees in this major establish paying careers in other fields.
