Program of Study

The Health Services Management bachelor?s degree includes concentrations in Long Term Care Administration, Private Sector Health Services Management (hospitals, physician practices, managed care organizations, etc.), and Public Health Services Management. The major in Health Services Management helps students develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies for effective management and leadership in the working environment. Through courses in Public Health and Health Services Management, Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Management, students are equipped with an understanding of the administrative structure, operations, management, and policies of the healthcare industry. Majors complete their training in Health Services Management with a professional internship during their final academic term. The department also offers majors in Emergency Management; Public Health, with two areas of concentration? Community Health Education and Environmental and Occupational Safety; and Social Work. Minors are offered in Emergency Management and Occupational Safety. It also participates in interdisciplinary programs with Women?s Studies.

The Emergency Medical Technician?s Training courses are designed to improve proper emergency care to victims of trauma or sudden illness. Those in the medical field are encouraged and often required to obtain such training. Satisfactory completion results in eligibility to take the EMT state certification examination. The focus is on application in the health field.
