Master of Science [M.S] Civil and Environmental Engineering

  • The Master of Science (M.Sc) in Computing Science at the University of California is a 2 years program.
  • It is an on-campus, thesis-based program offered on a full-time basis.
  • The degrees provided by the department are:
    • Master of Science (MSc)
    • Master of Engineering (MEng)
    • Doctoral degree (PhD).
  • MSc degree program has two options: Plan I is a thesis option, usually, 2 years in duration, with a minimum of 20 units of course work plus research, and Plan II is a 9-month plan, including a comprehensive exam or project (paper) with at least 24 units of course work.
  • Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) offers 2 programs of study for the MEng. CEE also offers three concurrent degree programs and two certificate programs.
  • Students in these degree programs select one of the following seven concentrations:
    • Energy, Civil Infrastructure and Climate 
    • Engineering and Project Management
    • Environmental Engineering
    • GeoSystems
    • Structural Engineering, Mechanics, and Materials
    • Systems (Civil Systems)
    • Transportation Engineering
  • These degrees emphasize the application of the natural sciences to the analysis and solution of engineering problems. 
  • All classes taught on the Berkeley campus by award-winning CEE faculty and provide maximum interaction with students and instructors.
  • The College of Engineering has about 40 research centers and institutes where students can get involved.

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must complete a bachelor's degree or the recognized equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Students hold a satisfactory scholastic average, usually a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale.
  • Students have enough undergraduate training to do graduate work in their chosen field.
  • The submission of GRE scores is not compulsory for this program.

English Language proficiency:

  • All students from countries or political entities in which the official language is not English are required to submit official evidence of English language proficiency.
  • This applies to students from Bangladesh, Burma, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Latin America, the Middle East, the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, most European countries, and Quebec (Canada).

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
