Bachelor of Science [B.S] Health and Physical Education
The Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education (HPE) is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), fully approved by Georgia’s Professional Standards Commission (PSC) for P-12 teacher certification, and nationally recognized by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). Kennesaw State University is the only program in Georgia nationally recognized by NASPE.
The HPE program is designed to prepare health and physical education teachers at all grade levels (pre-kindergarten through grade 12). The HPE program requires majors to apply for program admission in order to begin coursework in the professional education sequence.
In order to be admitted to the Health and Physical Education (P-12) program, majors must apply to both the Bagwell College Teacher Preparation Program and to the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education. It is recommended that majors arrange to meet with an HPE Faculty Advisor each semester to assure that are on track to apply for program admission. To qualify for the HPE Cohort that begins each fall, please be complete the following applications by their due dates:
- Bagwell College of Education: February 15
- Health & Physical Education: April 1

Academic Eligibility:
- At least 36 semester hours of accredited college coursework. (Some programs require at least 45 hours.)
- ENGL 1101 and 1102 with grades of “C” or better. EDUC 2110* with a grade of “C” or better and a satisfactory field experience evaluation. (*Or provide proof of credit from an approved high school Georgia Pathways for Educators Program)
- Achieved a minimum, institutional (adjusted) or cumulative GPA of 2.75 for all coursework completed at Kennesaw State University. However, only candidates who have earned a KSU institutional (adjusted) or cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher will be guaranteed admission when all other admission requirements have been met. Students with a 2.75-2.99 GPA will be admitted on a case-by-case basis.
- No grade lower than “C” in Lower Division Major and Teaching Field courses as required by the programs in Teacher Education.
- Students with the minimum scores on Collegiate SAT, ACT, or GRE examinations may exempt GACE Program Admission Assessment by submitting proof of scores to the Certification Officer
- Completed with a “C” or better: WELL 1000 or 2000, HPE 2000, HPE 2050, HPE 2250, and either HPE 1560 or 1580.
- Received a minimum letter grade of “C” in any required HPE major courses
- International students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
