UC Berkeley Ezera Research Fellowship for African Students 2023

This fellowship award in memory of Emeka Kalu Ezera seeks to support graduate students from African countries south of the Sahara at the University of California at Berkeley. The funds are assigned to the Center for African Studies to aid student scholars at the graduate level concentrating on African Studies. The Ezera competition is combined with the Rocca Fellowship. Ezera recipients may also receive funds from the Rocca endowment. Only one application is necessary.

Application Requirements

Priority is given to graduate students from West Africa who show exceptional promise of advancing scholarship in African Studies in the social sciences, humanities, and public policy and who demonstrate strong leadership potential. Students from other African regions are also eligible. Students must have been accepted for admission at the University of California at Berkeley. A recipient of this fellowship will receive funding for a maximum of two years; applications for the second year of funding will be evaluated with other applications for that year.

A prospectus of your dissertation/proposal (no more than 1200 words).
A budget that specifies the amount you need from Rocca and/or Ezera funds to supplement your primary grant.
A curriculum vitae.
A copy of your unofficial UCB transcripts of record.
Letter of recommendation from a faculty member who knows your research and a waiver form.
